Finally we know the definitive place where will take place the 33rd America’s Cup: Valencia! After months of rancorous ping-pong, they have agreed to BMW Oracle’s original proposal of Valencia, where it was held in 2007, as host of the next event in February.
The climbdown came as a result of more ‘unsuccessful discussions’ between the two parties, where there was agreement in principle on minor details but continued feuding over key issues.
“BMW Oracle wanted to delay and said they would only accept our offer of Australia as a venue if it was later in the year but we wanted the race to take place in February so decided we would take what has already been approved by the court and by Oracle,” said Alinghi spokesman Paco Latorre.
In a statement BMW Oracle said they were “very pleased” at Alinghi’s decision though both parties were waiting on more judgments from the New York Supreme Court, expected by the end of the week, which will clarify issues relating to boat measurement and racing rules.
